Oriental Rug Restoration

in Blog, Oriental Rug Cleaning and Restoration in Sarasota, Oriental Rug Cleaning and Restoration in St. Petersburg FL

It is an art that was created after the enduring art of carpet weaving. It is natural that the carpet is exposed to damage such as rot, tearing, burns, corrosion, etc., so the need to repair and modify the carpet is a basic need.

What is the meaning of carpet restoration?

Does carpet repair require specialization?

In answer to this question we must say: yes.

Restoration is actually a complement to carpet weaving. Therefore, the person who performs this specialized operation must have a long history in the fields of rosette, carpet weaving, recognizing different types of yarns and colors, and so on.

Importance of carpet restoration skills:

The value of this art becomes clear when you have an expensive carpet and it has been damaged due to factors such as burns, rot, etc., replacing the carpet and replacing it with a new carpet will undoubtedly cost a lot, of course, there are people who can afford it. They replace damaged and old carpets with new ones, but their interest in their old carpets forces them to leave their carpets to a repairer for repair.

Tools and equipment needed

Scissors are used to cut yarn or trim carpets. Knives, sharp wedges, and sharp-edged razors are used to cut the damaged part of the rug or to trim the worn edges of the rug.

The needle must be strong and durable, the narrow needle breaks when the carpet is repaired. The standard size of the needle is 5 cm to 7.5 cm with the number 3.5, almost like large and strong embroidery needles or crochet needles.

Linen carpet weaving yarn is stronger than ordinary yarns and is the best type of yarn for restoration. This yarn can be obtained in various colors in the form of spools or coils from art supply stores or carpet weaving stores. The yarn should be chosen to match the color of the carpet. Brown yarn is suitable when most of the stitches are sewn on the back of the carpet. If you can not get linen yarn or when a small part of the carpet needs to be repaired, you can use shiny (strong) yarn or cotton yarn. .

When using a needle, your fingers are more likely to be injured, so it is recommended that you use a protector.

Most carpets have roots in cotton and rarely do some carpets have roots in wool, silk and linen. To determine how many meters of roots need to be purchased, measure the two ends of the carpet and prepare one meter more roots for each area of your carpet.

tip:

As mentioned, carpet repair requires skill. On the other hand, preparing all the tools is costly and time consuming, so you can leave your carpet to one of the centers for repair.
